STRATHMORE Presents 2012 SPRING GALA WISHIN’ AND HOPIN’ with DIONNE WARWICK
Pop music icon illuminates Strathmore stage with highlights from incomparable career
NORTH BETHESDA, MD – Strathmore celebrates the hallmark diversity of its programming and community outreach with an equally diverse performer, the soulful diva Dionne Warwick, with her beguiling gospel, jazz, R&B, standards and pop influences, at its Spring 2012 Gala Wishin’ and Hopin’ on Saturday, April 21, 2012 in the Music Center. The evening will begin at 5:30 p.m. with cocktails, followed by a sumptuous dinner, a concert at 9:00 p.m. with Ms. Warwick and an after party with Big Ray and the Kool Kats. For more information or to purchase tickets, call (301) 581-5100 or visit www.strathmore.org.
Revelers and Strathmore supporters will indulge in cocktails and bubbly libations, and enjoy a seated dinner of filet mignon and seared rockfish filet with settings for 460 of the Washington, D.C. region’s most ardent arts supporters. In tribute to the powerful impact of the arts, guests will text message memories of their first arts experiences to screens positioned throughout the gala.
International music legend Dionne Warwick will headline the 2012 Spring Gala at Strathmore. Over her 40-plus-year career, Warwick has cemented her reputation as a hit maker with nearly 60 charted hits including “Don’t Make Me Over,” “Do You Know the Way to San Jose” and “Walk on By”—many of them Grammy winners. This extraordinary performer will share selections from her voluminous repertoire with gala guests.
Drinks, dancing and decadent desserts will follow Warwick’s performance at the after party with Big Ray and the Kool Kats, performing hits from Beyoncé to Frankie Valli and The Four Seasons, spanning a palette of genres including Top 40, jazz, R&B, swing and Motown. Complimentary wine and beer will be served.
The 2012 Spring Gala at Strathmore is the arts center’s signature fundraising event. Proceeds directly support Strathmore’s programming initiatives such as Discover Ellington and The Ives Project; performances from renowned artists and musicians; education and artistic programs such as the Artists in Residence program and the Strathmore Student Concerts, which introduce 20,000 students annually to classical music; master classes, such as the Imani Winds residency which impacted 1,200 students from pre-kindergarten through graduate level musicians; and free community events and festivals.
